How Does MACD Assist Districts?

Conservation Districts face an ever-changing, and ever-increasing, list of challenges. MACD helps districts keep up on the latest issues by:

  • Hosting an Annual Meeting with speakers covering timely topics Instructing at Supervisor Training

  • Speaking at Area Meetings

  • Responding to requests to facilitate CD-hosted events

  • Distributing a variety of memos and emails on new issues—including state and federal

  • legislation, and rules, that could affect districts

  • Providing technical support for CD accounting programs

  • Presenting awards to outstanding CDs and cooperators

  • Fostering communications between districts

  • Staffing initial joint CD efforts

  • Circulating a calendar of CD-related events

While recognizing the unique make up and independent views of each Board, MACD represents the agreed-upon common interests of Montana’s CDs by providing a unified voice to a number of audiences. These include:

Montana State Government

MACD is very successful in working with legislators to pass bills beneficial to CDs as well as thwarting those efforts that would negatively affect CDs, including drastic budget cuts. In addition, MACD is often in contact with numerous state agencies and the Governor’s office.

United States Government

Similarly, MACD frequently communicates with Montana ' s Congressional delegation, as well as federal agency staff, on national issues. This effort includes at least one visit a year to the nation’s capital to meet with individuals in person.

General Public & The Press

Conservation Districts have great success stories to tell and MACD helps get that message out by issuing press releases, giving news interviews, attending meetings, serving on advisory boards and participating in public panel discussions related to CD issues.

Regional and National CD Organizations

MACD serves as a single state point of contact for the National Association of Conservation Districts (NACD), NACD’s Northern Plains Region, and the Western Coalition of CDs.

Our Partners

MACD is in constant contact with our partners such as the DNRC’s Conservation and Resource Development Division, NRCS, Montana Salinity Control Association, RC&Ds, Watershed Groups and others that are working on projects benefiting landowners and CDs across the state.
